Morrisville women open season with win over Keuka

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's basketball team opened the 2024-25 season slate Friday night with a 77-65 non-conference win over visiting Keuka College on their home court in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville women's basketball opened the season Friday night with a 77-65 non-conference win over visiting Keuka College, draining 12 three-pointers as they collected the victory on their home court in Morrisville.
  • Morrisville built up a 41-26 lead at the half, fueled by a 22-point second quarter that saw the Wolves net a mere 12 points.
  • Morrisville built up as many as a 21-point lead in the third quarter, but Keuka was able to put together a rally in the fourth quarter to cut into the Mustang lead, closing the gap to just eight with 1:40 remaining in the contest.
  • A three by Hayley Dawson (Papamoa, NZ) regained the double-digit lead for the Mustangs, before Dezia Becker (Endicott, N.Y.) closed out the game with two free throws for the hosts.
  • Kieonna Christmas (Fultonville, N.Y.) led the Mustangs in her collegiate debut, collecting a team high 16 points with a near double double as she snagged eight rebounds.
  • The freshman also added five assists to her totals, while hitting 4-of-5 from beyond the arc.
  • Dawson and Anyssia Ingersoll (Mexico, N.Y.) each added 14 points, Dawson, hitting three long balls in her debut with the Mustangs, while Ingersoll added seven rebounds, four assists and five steals.
  • Becker finished with seven points and six rebounds, dishing out six assists in the win.
  • Morrisville got 23 points from their bench on the night, including nine apiece from Abbie Platt (Oneonta, N.Y.) and Jakiera Stackhouse (Liverpool, N.Y.).
  • Morrisville finished shooting 38.7 percent from long range to kick off the season, while putting together an 11-for-13 effort from the free throw line.
  • Three posted double figures for Keuka, led by Sydney Brown who collected 18 points on six three's, while Mary Cotter added another 17 point sand five rebounds to go along with 17 from Lillian Mullen.
  • Brooke Burd had 12 rebounds to lead the Wolves on the boards, while Caiden Crego dished out seven assists in the loss.

  • Morrisville hits the road for the first time of the young season next Tuesday, traveling to SUNY Poly for a 5 p.m. battle against the former league opponent.
