Third quarter leads Morrisville women past Poly

MARCY, N.Y. – Visiting SUNY Morrisville women's basketball outscored host SUNY Poly 20-10 in the third quarter of Tuesday's non-conference match in Marcy, handing the Wildcats the 45-37 defeat.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visting SUNY Morrisville women's basketball shot 58.3% from the floor in the third quarter Tuesday evening, outgaining the host SUNY Poly Wildcats 20-10 en route to a 45-37 non-conference win on the road in Marcy.
  • Poly led 18-16 at the break after a slow start by the Mustangs, but momentum shifted to Morrisville in the third after senior Dezia Becker (Endicott, N.Y.) kicked off the quarter with a three pointer for the one-point edge.
  • Kieonna Christmas (Fultonville, N.Y.) added a layup on the ensuing Mustang possession, fueling a 13-2 run that saw Morrisville jump out to a nine-point advantage midway through the frame.
  • Back-to-back layups by Poly cut the lead to five, but a three by Celeste Baldwin (Bainbridge, N.Y.) regained the nine-point advantage for the Mustangs, which assisted in the eight-point carry over to the final period of play.
  • Poly cut into the Mustang lead and made it a four-point game midway through the quarter, but two free throws by Christmas, followed by a three from Abbie Platt (Oneonta, N.Y.) broadened the gap for Morrisville, securing the win.
  • Christmas finished with her first collegiate double-double to lead the Mustangs, recorded a team high 11 points while snagging 15 rebounds and assisting five.
  • Hayley Dawson (Papamoa, New Zealand) added nine points to go along with eight rebounds, while Becker posted six points.
  • Anyssia Ingersoll (Mexico, N.Y.) collected 10 rebounds and dished out six assists.
