OWINGS MILLS, MD – The SUNY Morrisville women's hockey team scored once in each period of action Saturday afternoon to complete the sweep of Stevenson University on the opening weekend of the season, collecting the 3-1 final in Owings Mills, Maryland.

THE BASICS:
  • Team Scores: Morrisville 3, Stevenson 1
  • Location: Stevenson University; Owings Mills, Maryland
  • Records: Morrisville 2-0-0, Stevenson 0-2-0

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville women's hockey completed the sweep of Stevenson University Saturday with a 3-1 victory on the second of the opening weekend series on the road at Stevenson in Owings Mills, Maryland.
  • Morrisville, who scored once in each period of action, out shot the hosts 45-22 across the match, with freshman J'Anne Colbow (Weyburn, SK) collecting the win in net in her first collegiate start.
  • The Mustangs posted the first tally of the afternoon at the 16:22 mark of the first period with senior Allie Davidson (Niagara Falls, Ont.) knocking in the loose puck on the crease for the 1-0 Morrisville lead.
  • Logyn Nyitrai (Acton, Ont.) and Allicen Bouchard (Rockford, Ill.) were credited with assists after initiating the scoring opportunity.
  • Nearly one full period later, Stevenson tied the contest at one with the unassisted tally over the stick of Colbow on the breakaway, but that was short lived as Morrisville posted their second of the day seconds before the end of the period.
  • Nyitrai slid the puck to Ava Waugaman (Sandy, Utah) near the goal line, but Waugaman chipped it out to Kate Mabey (Guelph, Ont.) in the center of the offensive zone who juked the defense and fired the tally over the shoulder of Olivia DeGuire for the 2-1 lead with 30.4 seconds to go in the second.
  • Later in the third, Morrisville sealed the sweep with a third score, this time coming short handed as Zoe Leas (North Vancouver, B.C.) intercepted DeGuire's attempt to clear the puck from the Stevenson defensive zone and had the open net for the tally.
  • Colbow had 21 total saves across the afternoon, including backstopping 11 in the third to secure the win.

WHAT'S NEXT:

  • Morrisville will have one final road contest next Saturday at Nazareth University (Nov. 9), opening SUNYAC play the following weekend as they host Oswego on the 15th.
