Morrisville drops heartbreaker to Hartwick in overtime

ONEONTA, N.Y. – Visiting SUNY Morrisville women's basketball dropped a heartbreaking 65-62 decision to host Hartwick College Tuesday evening, falling in the overtime period as they fell to 2-3 overall to date on the season.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville women's basketball dropped a heartbreaking 65-62 non-conference decision Tuesday evening to host Hartwick College, falling in the overtime contest on the road in Oneonta.
  • Three posted double-figures for the Mustangs in their efforts, including Anyssia Ingersoll (Mexico, N.Y.) who had a team high 17 points to go along with six rebounds and two steals.
  • Senior Dezia Becker (Endicott, N.Y.) added 16 points, hitting four three-pointers, while adding five rebounds and two assists.
  • Celeste Baldwin (Bainbridge, N.Y.) wrapped up the Mustang scoring leaderboard with 15 points, nearly missing a double-double as she grabbed nine rebounds, while adding three assists.
  • Kieonna Christmas (Fultonville, N.Y.) had a team high 10 rebounds, while Abbie Platt (Oneonta, N.Y.) registered three steals in front of her hometown crowd.
  • Morrisville led 31-28 at the break before falling flat in the second half as Hartwick clawed their way back into the contest to maintain striking distance of the visitors.
  • Tied at 52 with just over two minutes to go, Ingersoll hit two free throws to give the Mustangs the two-point advantage with 20 seconds remaining, but a short jumper by Hartwick with nine ticks left tied the contest at 54.
  • Morrisville had the opportunity to win at the buzzer, but the three-point attempt bounced off the back rim and the contest, forcing the overtime period.
  • Morrisville went ahead with a three from Baldwin seconds into the extra time, but that was quickly matched and the hosts then turned the table and took a three-point lead of their own with back-to-back three-pointers from Emma Cohen.
  • Becker tied the contest at 50 with one of her own, before the hosts regained the advantage, hitting the long range shot from the right wing with 2:25 to go.
  • Becker brought Morrisville back within one, hitting two free throws with 1:08 remaining, but that's as close as the Mustangs would get as Hartwick added two of their own down the stretch to open the gap to a mere three-points for the win.

  • Morrisville returns to the court next Friday, opening SUNYAC play with a home battle against Plattsburgh State at 5:30 PM in Morrisville.
