Mustangs rally falls short in 4-2 loss to Fredonia

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's hockey team trailed 2-1 after the second period Saturday night, rallying to even the contest in the third, but fell short as visiting Fredonia collected two additional scores to claim the 4-2 SUNYAC win on the Mustangs home ice in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville men's hockey staged a comeback attempt in the third period Saturday night, but fell short as the visiting Fredonia Blue Devils collected the 4-2 SUNYAC win in Morrisville.
  • The Mustangs put the first tally on the board 10:57 into the opening period, before a power play score by the visitors evened the contest at one with under two minutes to go before the intermission.
  • Morrisville's tally came on the stick of Matt Mueller (Cambridge, Ont.) who put away the feed from Wyatt Allan (Capistrano Beach, Calif.) for the Mustang score.
  • Fredonia took the lead at the 14:04 mark of the second and carried the one-goal advantage through until the 12th minute of the third when Morrisville netted their second, a power play score from Zach Nicholls (Chestermere, Alta.) to even the contest at two.
  • Andrew Manley (Whitesboro, N.Y.) and Connor Carlile (Southlake, Tex.) were credited with the assists.
  • Moments later, though, Fredonia regained the lead with their second power play tally, securing the win with an empty net goal in the closing minute of the contest.
  • Will Goumas (Brampton, Ont.) had the loss in net for Morrisville, recording 44 saves between the pipes.
  • Antoine St. Onge had a goal and two assists to lead the Blue Devils in the league win, while Jameson Kaine registered 26 saves between the pipes.
