Turnovers prove costly in Mustang loss to Manhattanville

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's basketball team turned the ball over 18 times Friday evening with visiting Manhattanville University capitalizing as they claimed the 55-36 win over the Mustangs in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville women's basketball fell behind in the second quarter and was unable to recover Friday evening as visiting Manhattanville University claimed a 55-36 non-conference win over the Mustangs in Morrisville.
  • Morrisville turned the ball over a total 18 times on the night with the Valiants capitalizing on the miscues for 17 points off turnovers, including 11 fast break additions.
  • Anyssia Ingersoll (Mexico, N.Y.) led Morrisville's efforts with 16 points, adding four rebounds, with teammate Jakeira Stackhouse (Liverpool, N.Y.) coming off the bench to add nine points and seven boards to the Mustang totals.
  • Kieonna Christmas (Fultonville, N.Y.) led the hosts on the boards with a team best 13 as Morrisville held the slight 38-37 edge come game end.
  • Three posted double digits for Manhattanville, including Niyona Smith who posted 12 go to along with seven rebounds.
  • Kathleen O'Mara and Esther Ramos each had 10 points, combining for 14 rebounds and five assists.
  • Morrisville led 10-9 at the end of the first quarter, and played back and forth with the visitors until the 3:25 mark when Manhattanville put together an 11-0 run to close out the half with a 26-15 advantage.
  • After extending their lead to 14, Morrisville was able to cut into the Valiants lead and make it a nine point game after three quarters of play.
  • A layup by Stackhouse early on in the fourth cut it to seven, but Manhattanville put together a 9-0 spurt to regain a double-figure lead en route to the win.
