Volleyball drops five set match with Fredonia

FREDONIA, N.Y. – Visiting SUNY Morrisville volleyball forced a fifth and decisive set Saturday afternoon in SUNYAC action on the road at Fredonia but fell in match action as the Blue Devils claimed the 3-2 league win on their home court.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville volleyball had a slow start Saturday afternoon on the road at Fredonia, falling in match action 3-2 to the host Blue Devils in SUNYAC play.
  • Morrisville found themselves in a one-set hole after the first, hitting a mere .065 in the set, as Fredonia captured the 25-12 victory for the 1-0 match lead.
  • The Mustangs, though, evened the match at one with a 25-19 win in the second, before Fredonia edged the visitors to regain the lead 2-1 after the third set.
  • Another win for Morrisville in the fourth tied the match at two and forced the decisive fifth, where a mid-set rally by the hosts led to the 15-13 edge come final serve for the match win.
  • Senior Emily Huppee (Liberty Hill, Tex.) led the Mustang efforts with 29 kills on the day, adding an ace and seven digs.
  • Kayci Olson (Cortland, N.Y.) contributed 12 kills to go along with three digs, while Adeline Houser (Camden, N.Y.) added six kills to go along with a solo block.
  • Kayla Sheasby (Hood River, Ore.) had 18 digs to go along with 10 apiece from Cassandra Bellmore (Windsor, N.Y.), Mikayla Martinez (Tucson, Ariz.) and Kylie Hutchinson (Liberty Hill, Tex.).
  • Bellmore also had 42 assists, serving three aces and collecting two blocks.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
 
  • Morrisville will wrap up the regular season Tuesday as they host league leading SUNY Cortland on the Mustangs home court. Opening serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Morrisville.
  • Cortland is undefeated in SUNYAC play at 8-0 overall, defeating Buffalo State in today's league play.
