Morrisville unable to hold back Oneonta in second half

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville field hockey team scored four first half tallies Friday afternoon but were unable to hold off visiting SUNY Oneonta as they shut out the hosts in the second half en route to a 10-4 SUNYAC win in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville led 3-2 after the opening quarter before allowing four second quarter tallies by visiting Oneonta Friday afternoon, falling in league play by a 10-4 final score as they were shut out in the second half of action on Drake Field in Morrisville.
  • The Mustangs took little time attacking the Red Dragon defense, netting their first goal just 32 ticks in on a shot from the stroke like off the stick of Jazlyn Leet (Richford, N.Y.).
  • Melissa Beaver (Granville, N.Y.) assisted the goal after dribbling through the Oneonta defense to tip the ball to Leet.
  • Within minutes, Morrisville extended the lead to 2-0 with the first of three tallies from freshman Iyla Lilleby (Medina, N.Y.), who collected the loose ball in the center of the circle and chipped it into the back of the cage for the score.
  • Oneonta added back-to-back strikes of their own within a minute's time eight in, but Morrisville regained the lead with a flick from Lilleby inside the left post off the cress from Leet on the left wing.
  • Lilleby added her third of the day at the 18:43 mark for the 4-2 host advantage, beating the defense for the drive from the left side of the circle, but Oneonta would post four straight in the final 10 minutes of the half to claim the 6-4 advantage at the break.
  • In the second half, the hosts were unable to stop the Oneonta offense, as they added four more scores to their total, three in the third period of play, for the 10-4 victory.
  • Molly Miller led the Oneonta offense with four goals and an assist, while Erin Clark added one goal and assisted three.
  • Alexandra Howell had three goals for the Dragons.
  • Maura Leib posted the win in net, making five stops.
  • Lilleby recorded the hat trick for Morrisville with her three scores, while Leet finished with one goal and an assist.
  • Beaver's assist rounded out team scoring on the day.
  • Emmaly Noeller (Canastota, N.Y.) had 12 stops in the loss for the Mustangs.

  • Morrisville will wrap up the regular season next Friday on the road at Oswego. The battle with the Lakers is scheduled for 4 p.m. in Oswego.
