WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • The SUNY Morrisville women's hockey team collected their second win of the three-game series against SUNY Canton Saturday afternoon, downing the host Roos 6-2 in Canton in SUNYAC play.
  • Canton was first to score on the afternoon, clearing the puck out of zone before chipping it in on crease past Maggie Jones (Marystown, N.L.) in a three-on-two 5:42 into the opening period.
  • Trailing 1-0 after one, Morrisville notched four unanswered scores in second period, kicked off by a power play tip on the crease 2:31 into the period by Hailee Easson (Okotoks, Alta.).
  • Kate Mabey (Guelph, Ont.) and Emma Thompson (Ingleside, Ont.) were credited with the assists.
  • Canton regained the lead one goal lead at 13:37, knocking the puck out of zone and sneaking behind Mustang defense, collecting own rebound to put over pad of Jones for 2-1 advantage.
  • Within minutes, Morrisville collected their second power play score of the contest to even it up at two, as Zoe Leas (North Vancouver, B.C.) gathered the puck at the top of left circle within zone from Meadow Clarke (Middlesackville, N.S.) and Allie Davidson (Niagara Falls, Ont.) for the sniping score to ignite the Mustangs for three additional tallies in the final 4:29 of action in the second.
  • Morrisville took their first lead of the contest with 2:38 to go in the frame, as Kennedy Kirkby (Prescott, Ont.) knocked in the loose puck, a backhanded chip over stick side shoulder of Canton's Anna Maulson for the 3-2 Mustang lead.
  • Leas and Clarke earned the assists on the score for Morrisville.
  • The visitors closed out the second period with a deflecting goal from Madison Tomkins (Windsor, Ont.), off the center feed from left from Kirkby, that she placed over the glove to move the net.
  • Davidson was credited with the second assist on the tally.
  • Morrisville carried a 4-2 advantage into the final period of action, extending their lead to three midway through the third.
  • Davidson and Leas cleared the puck out of the Mustangs defensive zone to a wide-open Alana McDonald (Potsdam, N.Y.) waiting on the right wing and dodged her way past the defenseman for the scoring wrister over the pads of the Canton goaltender on the power play.
  • Attempting to put one on the board with the extra skater, Canton pulled Maulson from net with 4:38 to go, but Easson sealed the win for the Mustangs with an empty net tally from defensive zone with 2:15 remaining to put the game out of reach for the hosts.
