Roos bounce past Morrisville women, 5-3

CANTON, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's ice hockey team allowed three third period scores Friday night in SUNYAC play against host SUNY Canton, falling by a 5-3 league final on the road.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville women's hockey held a 3-2 lead after two periods of action Friday night in Canton, but allowed the hosts to put three in the net in the final frame as SUNY Canton claimed the 5-3 SUNYAC win in Canton.
  • After a scoreless first period, Morrisville put one on the board first, with Hailee Easson (Okotoks, Alta.) slapped in the rebound off the blocked shot 4:13 into the second.
  • Zoe Leas (North Vancouver, B.C.) and Miranda Bookman (Manlius, N.Y.) were credited with the assists.
  • Morrisville took a two-goal lead off the poke by Allie Davidson (Niagara Falls, Ont.) on the crease, diving with an extended stick to put home the rebound off the initial shot by Allicen Bouchard (Rockford, Ill.) 11:28 into the period.
  • Canton got their first score just over a minute later, placing the centering wrister over glove of Mustang netminder Maggie Jones (Marystown, N.L.).
  • Morrisville regained the two-goal lead in the 15th minute, though, with Alana McDonald (Potsdam, N.Y.) firing the one timer from the left circle through traffic on the power play for the Mustangs.
  • Davidson and Meadow Clarke (Middlesackville, N.S.) earned the assists.
  • Canton responded seconds later with a breakaway tally, catching Jones on the late slide across the face of the goal.
  • Morrisville carried the 3-2 lead into the final frame, but Canton evened the score at the 7:57 mark with the scrum on the crease, before taking their first lead of the contest at 13:37 with the short-handed score on a breakaway.
  • The Roos secured the win with an empty net score with 1:08 to go in the contest.
  • Jones finished with 35 saves in the loss for the Mustangs.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
 
  • Morrisville will wrap up the regular season series with the Roos tomorrow afternoon as they take the ice at 3 p.m. in Canton for the third meeting this season.
