Morrisville women pick up NAC win over Roos

CANTON, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's soccer team picked up a 2-0 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) win Saturday afternoon, topping the host Canton Roos by a 2-0 final score in Canton.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville picked up a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) win Saturday as they topped host SUNY Canton by a 2-0 league final in Canton.
  • Both teams battled back and fourth throughout the opening 64 minutes of play, but it was in the 65th minute of action that the Mustangs broke the scoreless tie, putting together the three-on-one breakaway.
  • Callie Lafontaine (Chaumont, N.Y.) centered the ball from the right wing to an open Laura Bedell (New Hartford, N.Y.) who had a one-touch and sent the shot towards the net, where the ball deflected off the hands of the Roo goalkeeper and to the feet of an open Brianna Barnes (Waterville, N.Y.) for the cleanup score.
  • Within minutes, Morrisville again pushed forward offensively, and Ava Malin (Cold Brook, N.Y.) sent a chip to the top left of the box to an open Jenny DeJung (Hogansburg, N.Y.) who in turn settled the ball and fired it inside the right post for the two-goal cushion in the 77th minute of play.
  • Melanie Rott (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) secured the shut-out victory in net, turning away 10 for the Mustangs, who collect their first NAC win of the season.
  • Morrisville held the 18-14 shot advantage on the day, and 4-1 lead in corner kicks.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
 
  • Morrisville will head to Kings College on Tuesday, before resuming NAC play with a home battle against Cobleskill on the 23rd.
