MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Host SUNY Morrisville women's soccer had rough start to the 2023 season Friday evening, falling by a 6-1 final score to cross town opponent Utica University on the new Drake Field in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

• Host SUNY Morrisville's Callie Lafontaine (Chaumont, N.Y.) collected the Mustangs lone score in a season opening 6-1 loss Friday evening to visiting Utica College.
• Utica jumped out to an early lead, netting the first tally 1:40 into the contest, before adding a second in the 24^th minute to hold the 2-0 advantage at the break.
• Following a flurry of three straight tallies over five minutes time by the Pioneers, Morrisville was able to break through the Utica defense as Lafontaine sent one into the far corner of the net, following the breakaway feed from Kailee Figger (New Berlin, N.Y.) in the center of the field at the 73:23 mark.
• Utica added one final strike seconds later to capture the 6-1 victory.
• Melanie Rott (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) collected the loss in net, despite a 14 save performance, seven stops in each half of action.
