MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's soccer team dropped the 2023 season opener on the road Friday evening, falling to host Elmira College by a 5-2 final score.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

• Visiting SUNY Morrisville men's soccer got behind early and was unable to recover in the season opener Friday evening, as host Elmira College collected the 5-2 victory on the Campus Field in Elmira in non-conference action.
• The hosts jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, netting the first at the 16:12 mark before adding a second to double their lead in the 21^st minute.
• After a third tally at the 35:42 mark, Morrisville was able to bury one in the back of the net as Dylan Rosen (Poughquag, N.Y.) got a head on the free kick from Olvin Yanes (Selden, N.Y.) at midfield following an Elmira foul to make it a two-goal game just 20 seconds later.
• Trailing 3-1 at the break, Morrisville was able to pull within one at the 68:55 mark with a chip from the top left corner of the box from midfielder Josh Lawniczak (Avon Lake, Ohio).
• Elmira regained the two-goal advantage in the 72^nd minute and secured the win with a final strike at 88:33.
• Caleb Lucero (Syracuse, N.Y.) recorded the loss in net, making six stops.
