Season comes to a close for Morrisville men in United East final

ST. MARY'S CITY, MD – The second seeded SUNY Morrisville men's lacrosse team battled through a grueling four quarters of United East Championship action Saturday afternoon, but fell short as top seeded St. Mary's College claimed the title with a 17-10 victory on their home field in Maryland.

THE BASICS:
  • Final Score: Morrisville 10, St. Mary's 17 (halftime: St. Mary's 7-3)
  • Location: St. Mary's College, JLR Stadium, St. Mary's City, MD
  • Records: Morrisville 9-5, St. Mary's College 14-5

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • The second seeded SUNY Morrisville men's lacrosse team put together a second half comeback attempt after trailing by three at the break, but couldn't get past the top seeded hosts, St. Mary's College, as they fell 17-10 in the United East Championship final to the Seahawks.
  • Morrisville trailed by five minutes into the third quarter, but after a Zach Nestor (Manlius, N.Y.) tally, went on a 5-1 goal run to cut the deficit to one with three remaining in the frame.
  • St. Mary's, however, was able to maintain possession with the dominance of Mitch Boudreau at the center X, and put away three straight to regain the multi-goal lead after three.
  • The Seahawks added to more tallies to increase the lead to six, before Morrisville was able to get one more, but it wasn't enough as they were plagued down the stretch by penalties.
  • Nestor finished with four points for the Mustangs, netting two and assisting two more, while Dante Patriarco (Cortland, N.Y.) collected the hat trick with his three scores.
  • Daniel Squires (Aquebogue, N.Y.) netted three as well, while Ethan Hicks (Dryden, N.Y.) and Dean Mohammed (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) each added one.
  • Nicholas DeNicola (Southold, N.Y.) registered a team high six ground balls and two caused turnovers, while assisting two in the Mustang efforts.
  • Michael Avgenikos (Cazenovia, N.Y.) added an assist and three ground balls as well, while James Graizzaro (Hillside, N.J.) assisted one.
  • Justin Smith (East Syracuse, N.Y.) fronted the Mustang defense, picking up four ground balls and causing two turnovers.
  • Dylan LaPlace (Chester, Conn.) registered the loss, despite a 14 save effort, six that were collected in the final frame of the contest.
