Morrisville women cage Redhawks in United East win

PITTSBURGH, PA – The SUNY Morrisville women's lacrosse team moved one step closer to the post-season Saturday afternoon, as they downed host La Roche University by a 19-2 final to remain perfect in United East play at 4-0.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • SUNY Morrisville women's lacrosse improved to 4-0 overall in United East action with just one game remaining on the league schedule, as they toppled host La Roche University by a 19-2 final score in Pittsburgh.
  • Morrisville opened all scoring just nine seconds into the contest, with a strike by Jillian Dodge (Jamesville, N.Y.) to put the visitors on the board first.
  • Morrisville rolled to a 5-0 lead before LaRoche was able to put one on the board, and outgained the hosts 10-2 come halftime, before adding nine more tallies to the final score in the second half.
  • Seven different Mustangs contributed in scoring to the win, including Maddie Baum (Fulton, N.Y.) who posted a team high nine points behind her seven goals and two assists.
  • Baum also added five ground balls and three caused turnovers to her totals, while Dodge netted four total goals on the day.
  • Alexa Ringgold (Bellport, N.Y.) added a four-point outing with her hat-trick and assist, with Aria Treadway (Rome, N.Y.) added two goals and two assists.
  • Morrisville outgained LaRoche 17-8 in draws and doubled the Redhawks 36-18 in ground balls.
  • Cara Walker (Phelps, N.Y.) missed a near triple double, snagging 14 draws out of the air, picked up 10 ground balls and recorded nine caused turnovers.
  • She also added a goal and three assists.
  • Dominique Johnson (Fulton, N.Y.) added to the Mustangs dominance on defense, collecting five ground balls and causing four turnovers, as Morrisville limited LaRoche to just 11 total shots across the day.
  • Rebecca Thomas (Marcy, N.Y.) recorded two stops in the win for Morrisville, appearing in the first half of play, before Maggie Jones (Marystown, N.L.) stepped in net for the second half to turn away one.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
 
  • Morrisville returns to the field Tuesday, traveling to SUNY Poly for a 5 p.m. non-league contest, before returning home to host St. Mary's College of Maryland on Friday.
  • The contest against St. Mary's will be a battle of the league's top two teams, each seeking the perfect United East record.
