Morrisville men record setting day in win over LaRoche

PITTSBURGH, PA – The SUNY Morrisville men's lacrosse team improved to 3-1 within United East play Saturday as they had a record setting day in the dominating 32-0 win over host LaRoche University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville men's lacrosse rolled to a United East win Saturday afternoon on the road, setting four single game records as 14 players registered points on the afternoon in the victory.
  • Morrisville set new single game marks of goals scored (32), assists (26), points (53) and ground balls (90).
  • Zach Nestor (Manlius, N.Y.) collected 10 points on the day, netting one goal as he assisted another nine, adding seven ground balls to his totals.
  • Freshman Brian Kelly (Tully, N.Y.) added a seven-point performance, collecting his first collegiate score before rattling off four more and adding two assists.
  • Dante Patriarco (Cortland, N.Y.) picked up his 100th collegiate point, netting six goals, while Evan Kistner (Fulton, N.Y.) also had six points behind his two goals and four assists.
  • Kistner, who collected six ground balls alongside freshman Cade Moss (New Hartford, N.Y.), who also notched his first collegiate score, before rattling off five others for a six-goal outing.
  • Michael Avgenikos (Cazenovia, N.Y.) went 17-for-19 from the center x, collecting 13 ground balls off the face-off, while fellow specialist Ben Cooter (Tully, N.Y.) added 14 wins (of 14 attempts), to go along with seven ground balls.
  • Morrisville's defense limited LaRoche to just five shots on the day, causing 25 turnovers, three each from long sticks Nicholas DeNicola (Southold, N.Y.) and Angelo Albanese (Cicero, N.Y.).
  • Seven additional Mustangs caused two apiece.
  • Morrisville outshot the hosts 53-3 in shots on goal, while nearly tripling the battle on the ground as they collected 90 to the Redhawks 36.
  • Dylan Laplace (Chester, Conn.) recorded the win in net, despite not facing a shot in the opening quarter.
  • Nathan Weise (Rochester, N.Y.) appeared in the second and third quarters, before being replaced by Craig Cratsenberg (Evans Mills, N.Y.) for the final frame.
  • Cratsenberg made three saves to secure the shut out for the visitors.
  • Morrisville opened all scoring at 13:42 of the first quarter with a score from Dean Mohammed (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) before the flood gates opened with six additional tallies over the ensuing four minutes of the quarter, expanding the lead to 7-0 in favor of Morrisville.
  • Morrisville went on to open an 11-0 lead after the opening fifteen, adding another 12 in the second quarter for a 23-0 score at the break.
  • LaRoche struggled to contain the Mustangs in the second half as well, as they collected the United East win by a 32-0 final score.
  • The victory is the largest margin of record for the Mustangs in the NCAA era.

  • Morrisville returns to the field for the regular season finale on Saturday, hosting Hilbert at noon. Prior to the contest, they will honor their graduating class.
