Baum's six leads Mustang women past Alfred

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – SUNY Morrisville junior attack Maddie Baum (Fulton, N.Y.) posted six tallies and added an assist Wednesday evening to lead the host Mustangs to a 12-6 win over visiting Alfred University on Drake Field in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Junior Maddie Baum (Fulton, N.Y.) scored six times and added an assist to lead the host SUNY Morrisville Mustangs to a 12-6 victory over Alfred University Wednesday evening in non-conference action on Drake Field in Morrisville.
  • Morrisville, who entered the half knotted at six apiece, scored twice in the third before capping off the contest with another four in the final quarter to seal the win.
  • At the same time, the Mustangs held the Saxons scoreless for the final 35 minutes of the contest behind the play of goalkeeper Rebecca Thomas (Marcy, N.Y.) who posted 10 saves on the night.
  • Morrisville's first score of the night came two minutes in as Cara Walker collected the unassisted extra woman score after an early Alfred card.
  • Within minutes, Walker found Sara Lutz (Parker, Colo.) for a second Mustang score and 2-0 lead.
  • Alfred posted two straight before Baum collected her first of the night, midway through the quarter, on the extra woman, before adding a second with 4:35 to go in the frame.
  • Alfred took a 5-4 lead early in the second, before Baum pulled the contest even at five with her third of the night, but another strike gave the visitors the slight one goal advantage with five to go before half.
  • With under a minute remaining, Baum rifled one past the Alfred goalkeeper to send the game into the halftime period knotted at six apiece.
  • Jillian Dodge (Jamesville, N.Y.) collected her first of the night minutes into the third period off the dish from Walker to give Morrisville the 7-6 lead, before Baum collected her fifth for the two goal advantage after three.
  • It was all Morrisville in the fourth as Mikayla Zotta (Schenectady, N.Y.) collected her first of the year off the feed from Baum behind the net to kick off a four goal fourth.
  • Walker posted her second of the night at the 10:33 mark to extend the lead to four, before Baum notched her sixth with an underhand flick on the crease for the five-goal advantage.
  • Dodge sealed the win with her unassisted score with 2:10 remaining.
  • Morrisville held the 31-16 advantage in shots on goal across the night, not allowing a shot in the fourth quarter, while also holding a slight 23-19 lead in ground balls.
  • Baum led the Mustangs with seven ground ball pickups, while Walker collected six, each snagging four draw controls apiece.
  • Walker also caused four turnovers, while Alexa Ringgold (Bellport, N.Y.) caused havoc with her four caused turnovers.
