MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's lacrosse team dropped a 19-8 decision to cross town opponent Utica University Wednesday night, rallying in the second half under the lights in Morrisville.

THE BASICS:
  • Final Score: Morrisville 8, Utica 19 (halftime: Utica 13-3)
  • Location: Drake Field, Morrisville, N.Y.
  • Records: Morrisville 1-6, Utica 4-1

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville women's lacrosse battled back from a double-digit deficit Wednesday night at the half but couldn't find an answer for the visiting Utica University offense as they fell 19-8 to the cross-town opponent on Drake field in Morrisville.
  • Both teams traded scores throughout the first 10 minutes of the contest, before Utica added two in the final four minutes of the opening quarter to claim a 5-3 advantage.
  • An eight-goal run carried in the second saw Utica take a commanding 13-3 lead at the half, before adding three more to their total in the third.
  • A rebound score with 3:54 to go in the third sparked a four-goal spurt by the Mustangs, but it wasn't enough as Utica added three more down the stretch, including one as time expired on the clock.
  • Utica outgained Morrisville 29-22 in shots, but the Mustangs won the battle on the ground picking up 23 ground balls to the Pioneers 16.
  • Morrisville also won the draw control battle, 16-13, with six apiece from Alana McDonald (Potsdam, N.Y.) and Cara Walker (Phelps, N.Y.).
  • Walker added four ground balls and three caused turnovers to the Mustang totals alongside four ground ball pickups by Alexa Ringgold (Bellport, N.Y.) who ignited the four-goal run with her third quarter rebound score.
  • Ringgold notched two total scores on the day, also causing a turnover.
  • Maddie Baum (Fulton, N.Y.) led the Mustangs in scoring with three tallies, two that came on the free position as she was 2-for-2, while collecting four off the ground and snagging a draw.
  • McDonald finished the day with two goals to her totals, one on the free position, while Aria Treadway (Rome, N.Y.) rounded out the Mustang scoring with a goal and two draw controls.
  • Rebecca Thomas (Whitesboro, N.Y.) recorded seven stops in the loss for the Mustangs in 50 minutes of action between the pipes, before being relieved by Maggie Jones (Marystown, N.L.) for the final 10.
