Morrisville women slip in second half as Maritime collects win

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's lacrosse team trailed by one at the halftime break, but a fell behind early in the second and was unable to recover as host SUNY Maritime collected a 21-10 victory in Throggs Neck Saturday afternoon.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville women's lacrosse fell in non-conference action Saturday afternoon, slipping in the second half as Maritime posted the 21-10 victory in Throggs Neck.
  • Morrisville had a strong opening quarter, outgaining the Privateers 6-5 in the first, before Maritime added three goals in the second to carry the slim 8-7 lead into the halftime break,
  • Morrisville couldn't find an answer for the hosts in the second half of play, falling behind early before recording the loss on the road.
  • A trio of Mustangs registered two goals apiece, including Maddie Baum (Fulton, N.Y.) who notched two to go along with her two ground ball pick-ups and caused turnover.
  • Alexa Ringgold (Bellport, N.Y.) added two as well, alongside Cara Walker (Phelps, N.Y.) who notched two tallies to go along with a team high eight draw controls.
  • Alana McDonald (Potsdam, N.Y.) added a two-point outing, netting a goal and assisting another, while Jillian Dodge (Jamesville, N.Y.), Aria Treadway (Rome, N.Y.) and Sarah Lutz (Parker, Colo.) each collected one goal to contribute to the Mustang efforts.
  • Rebecca Thomas (Marcy, N.Y.) recorded 12 stops in the effort in net, nine in the second half of play.
  • Maritime opened with the first five tallies of the contest, but it was an unassisted goal by Walker that kicked off a six goal run over the final 5:16 of the contest that sparked the Mustang offensive unit.
  • McDonald found Baum 37 seconds later for a second Mustang tally, before Treadway put away a third at the 4:06 mark.
  • McDonald collected her own score at the 2:54 mark to cut the deficit to one, before Baum registered her second with 1:49 showing on the clock to even the contest at five.
  • An unassisted score by Lutz with two ticks to go gave the Mustangs the 6-5 lead after the first quarter.
  • Maritime notched an early second quarter goal to even the contest at six, but Ringgold added to the Mustang scoring with one at the 13:02 mark to regain the lead for the visitors.
  • Maritime added to more down the stretch to send the contest into the halftime period with a one-goal host lead.
  • In the third, Morrisville traded scores, with a second coming from Ringgold at the 12:09 mark and a second from Walker midway through the quarter, but Maritime would go on a seven goal run that carried over into the fourth to open the contest to a nine-goal advantage.
  • Dodge broke up the scoring for the Mustangs with one at the 6:41 mark, but Maritime closed out the contest with three more tallies to earn the win.
