Morrisville men net big win in edge of Berks 80-72

READING, PA. – The SUNY Morrisville men's basketball team picked up a big United East win Wednesday night as they withstood a late surge by host Penn St. Berks to earn the 80-72 victory in Reading.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville withstood a late surge by the host Penn St. Berks Nittany Lions Wednesday night in Reading, collecting the 80-72 United East win to complete the series sweep.
  • Three collected 20+ points for the Mustangs, including Shykell Brown (Rochester, N.Y.) who paved the way with 22 points.
  • Brown added an assist to go along with five rebounds, while hitting three from long range.
  • Tron Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Brandon Kulakowski (Brewerton, N.Y.) each poured in 20 while assisting a combined five.
  • Smith hit 9-of-11 from the free throw line, while adding nine rebounds, three off the offensive glass.
  • Kulakowski snatched the double-double performance with 10 boards to go along with his point total, hitting 3-of-5 from beyond the arc.
  • Morrisville dominated the glass, outgaining the Nittany Lions 46-25 in rebounds, including a 13-3 edge in second chance points.
  • Berks trailed by one with 4:44 to go in the contest, before Morrisville put together a four point spurt to expand the lead to five just a minute later.
  • The hosts again cut the lead to a one possession game with a three with 3:09 showing on the clock, and for every Nittany Lion score to cut the team to two, Smith countered with a bucket of his own to regain the four-point advantage.
  • Berks hit a layup with 1:12 remaining, and on the ensuing possession, Kulakowski drove the right lane for the layup and four-point lead, before Smith added three straight from the free throw line to secure the win.
