Morrisville women claim regular season United East title; defeat Gallaudet

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The SUNY Morrisville women's basketball team claimed the 2022-23 United East regular season title Saturday afternoon as they completed the series sweep with host Gallaudet, earning the 65-59 victory in Washington, D.C.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville women's basketball wrapped up the regular season schedule with a 65-59 victory over host Gallaudet University Saturday afternoon in Washington, D.C. earning the United East regular season title with a 14-2 overall league record.
  • The regular season title is the first for Morrisville in program history, and as such, will serve as the overall top seed and host of the upcoming United East tournament, scheduled to begin Friday, February 24.
  • Rachel Vieira (Caruthers, Calif.) led the Mustangs with 17 points while assisting another four and stealing six.
  • Brooke Hammersley (Weedsport, N.Y.) added 11 to go along with her four rebounds, while Taylor Colone-Microni (Oneonta, N.Y.) chipped in 10 while registering a team high eight assists.
  • Morrisville took advantage of Bison miscues, netting 29 points off 23 Gallaudet turnovers on the afternoon, adding 22 points in the paint.
  • The Mustangs trailed 11-14 after the opening quarter before outgaining Gallaudet 18-12 in the second to edge the Bison by three at the break.
  • Morrisville put together a 22-point second quarter to head into the final frame with a commanding lead and led by as many as 16 before a late run by the hosts cut the deficit to five with 29 seconds to go.
  • Carli Pardee (South Kortright, N.Y.) regained the multi-possession advantage for the Mustangs by hitting 3-of-4 from the free throw line, securing the win for Morrisville.

  • Morrisville will await tournament information as announced by the league office. The Mustangs will host the semifinals and finals Friday and Saturday in the STUAC Gymnasium on the Morrisville campus. Additional details will be announced once made available.
