Morrisville women net SUNYAC win, down Bears 2-0

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's ice hockey team picked up their first SUNYAC win Saturday evening, shutting down the visiting Potsdam Bears as they netted the 2-0 league victory on their home ice in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville women's ice hockey posted the 2-0 shut out victory over visiting SUNY Potsdam Saturday, picking up their first SUNYAC win of the young season on the Mustangs home ice in Morrisville.
  • Junior netminder Elizabeth Timby (Getzville, N.Y.) posted her first collegiate shutout, racking up 37 saves in the win in net, including a 16-stop effort in the second period of action.
  • Morrisville put their first tally up on the board 8:44 in the opening period as Allicen Bouchard (Rockford, Ill.) poked the loose puck past Potsdam's goaltender for the Mustang score.
  • Zoe Leas (North Vancouver, B.C.) recorded the assist after having the initial shot on net.
  • Morrisville maintained their one goal advantage and headed into the second, withstanding a persistent Bears attack on net behind Timby's play to turn away the double digit shot attempt by the visitors.
  • Midway through the third period, Morrisville added to their total as Leas intercepted the puck and had the breakaway, going top shelf as she put the hosts out in front by two at the 8:37 mark.
  • Potsdam gained the 5-on-3 advantage over the Mustangs a few minutes later, but Morrisville killed off the power play opportunity.
  • The Bears had a persistent fight down the stretch to put one on the board, but Morrisville's defense turned away three attempts with under a minute to go to secure the league win.
  • Magalie Parent recorded 25 saves in the loss for Potsdam, 10 in the third period of play.
  • Morrisville recorded 11 blocked shot attempts and won in the face-off circle 40 times en route to the win, 15 faceoff wins from Allie Davidson (Niagara Falls, Ont.) and another 11 from Alana McDonald (Potsdam, N.Y.).
