Morrisville women win battle of Mustangs, topple Stevenson 5-0

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's ice hockey team picked up a non-conference win against visiting Stevenson University Wednesday afternoon, pulling their record even as they notched the 5-0 victory in the battle of the Mustangs in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville women's ice hockey headed into the Thanksgiving holiday with a 5-0 shutout win Wednesday afternoon, creating a scoring flurry in the second period on their home ice in Morrisville.
  • Morrisville was able to break the scoreless tie 6:25 into the second with a slap from the right circle from defenseman Logyn Nyitrai (Acton, Ont.) who put home her first of the season off the feed from Hailee Easson (Okotoks, Alta.) and Alana McDonald (Potsdam, N.Y.).
  • Within minutes, the hosts added to their lead with an unassisted tally from Allie Davidson (Niagara Falls, Ont.) who collected the loose puck in the neutral zone and put the backhanded tally past Stevenson netminder, Olivia DeGuire, for the 2-0 Morrisville lead.
  • Continuing to dominate the frame, Easson extended the home advantage to three with her poke on the crease on the power play at 15:28, before Zoe Leas (North Vancouver, B.C.) made it a 4-0 lead with her one-timer off the breakaway dish by Davidson to head into the final period of action in the 18th minute.
  • Kendal Kalinowski (Buffalo, N.Y.) wrapped up all scoring for Morrisville at the 11:32 mark of the third, flicking the puck past DeGuire for the 5-0 win.
  • Easson and Davidson were credited with assists.
  • Elizabeth Timby (Getzville, N.Y.) recorded her second shut out of the year, registering 17 saves in 59:33 of action in the contest.
  • DeGuire finished with 33 stops as the Mustangs held the 38-17 advantage in shots over Stevenson.
