McDonald nets game winner in SUNYAC bout with Buffalo State

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Senior forward Alana McDonald (Potsdam, N.Y.) scored in the 13th minute of the third period of Friday night's State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup against Buffalo State on the road in Buffalo, as visiting SUN Morrisville topped the Bengals 2-1 for the win.
THE BASICS:
  • FINAL Score: Morrisville 2, Buffalo State 1
  • Location: Buffalo, N.Y.
  • Records: Morrisville 3-3-0, 2-3-0 SUNYAC; Buffalo State 1-4-1, 0-2-0 SUNYAC

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville toppled host Buffalo State College women's hockey Friday night in Buffalo, as senior Alana McDonald (Potsdam, N.Y.) gave the Mustangs the win with her tally at the 12:44 mark of the third.
  • Morrisville took a 1-0 lead just 3:13 into the contest with an unassisted tally from Hailee Easson (Okotoks, Alta.) before Buffalo State evened it up with one of their own in the 18th minute of the opening period.
  • Playing to a scoreless second, both teams remained knotted at one until the 12:44 mark when Miranda Bookman (Manlius, N.Y.) chipped the puck to Zoe Leas (North Vancouver, B.C.) who found a wide-open McDonald for the one-time scoring wrister and 2-1 lead.
  • Buffalo State had a chance to even it up at two, but the defensive play of the Mustangs kept them off the board.
  • Maggie Jones (Marystown, N.L.) turned away six Bengal attempts to even the contest over five minutes time, and the Mustangs withstood the extra skater for the final 1:04 to secure the win.
  • Jones finished with 33 saves in 59:18 in net, 13 total in the third period of play.

WHAT'S NEXT:

  • Morrisville returns to the ice Tuesday, traveling to nearby Hamilton College for a 1 p.m. non-conference contest.
