Morrisville women claim West Division Title

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's soccer team advanced to the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship finals Sunday, downing SUNY Delhi by a 2-0 final score in the West Division Championship game hosted by SUNY Poly in Marcy.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Fourth seeded SUNY Morrisville women's soccer claimed their first post-season title Sunday afternoon, ousting third seeded SUNY Delhi by a 2-0 final score in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) West Division Championship contest hosted by SUNY Poly in Marcy.
  • The Mustangs will host the NAC Championship Final Saturday, November 4, meeting East Division Champion Maine Maritime Academy for the automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
  • Morrisville got on the board early, as Brianne Barnes (Waterville, N.Y.) cleaned up the loose ball on the goal line at the 7:39 mark to put the visitors ahead 1-0.
  • The Mustangs withstood pressure from the Delhi forward line throughout the remainder of the contest and had three good looks in the second half to extend their lead but were held scoreless until a costly foul by the Broncos pulled down Morrisville's Callie LaFontaine (Chaumont, N.Y.) in the box, awarding the sophomore the penalty kick opportunity.
  • LaFontaine buried the ball down the center for the two-goal advantage in the 83rd minute.
  • Senior Melanie Rott (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) secured the shutout win for the Mustangs, recording seven saves, to advance Morrisville to the championship final.
  • This is the first time the Mustangs have appeared in the conference tournament since the 2018 season, and the first they will be competing for a league title and bid to the NCAA tourney.

  • Morrisville will serve as the host for the NAC Championship Final Saturday, November 4. Details will be announced once finalized with the conference office.
