Box Score HERSHEY, PA. – The SUNY Morrisville women's ice hockey team opened the 2023-24 season slate Friday afternoon with a convincing 5-0 win over host Lebanon Valley College in Hershey, Pennsylvania, giving Mustang head coach John Briggs his first career win.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
- Visiting SUNY Morrisville scored twice in the opening period to the 2023-24 season Friday afternoon and added three more across the remainder of the contest to post a convincing 5-0 victory over host Lebanon Valley College in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
- The win is the first career victory for Mustang head coach John Briggs, who's squad came out firing on all cylinders to out gain the Dutchmen 46-17 in shots on net across the contest.
- Morrisville put their first tally to the young season on the board at the 13:07 mark as junior forward Kendal Kalinowski (Buffalo, N.Y.) collected the unassisted goal.
- Senior Alana McDonald (Potsdam, N.Y.) made it a two-goal advantage in the closing minute of the first, putting away the puck off the dish from newcomer Kyliane Plouff (Blainville, Ont.).
- McDonald struck again 4:52 into the second for her second tally of the afternoon, burying the feed from Emma Thompson (Ingleside, Ont.) and Allicen Bouchard (Rockford, Ill.).
- Morrisville headed into the final period with a three-goal lead and added two more tallies to their afternoon total, both coming on the power play as they converted 2-of-5 opportunities in the match.
- Junior defenseman Kate Mabey (Guelph, Ont.) posted her first of the season with the rifle from the top of the zone off the dish from Plouff at the 5:35 mark, before Plouff notched one of her own late in the frame off the chip from Kalinowski.
- The freshman finished with three points in her first collegiate game, while Kalinowski and McDonald each had two points.
- Maggie Jones (Marystown, N.L.) earned the shutout victory in net, turning away 17, including a seven save performance in the opening period.
- The win is the first for the Mustangs on opening day since the 2018-19 season.

- Morrisville returns to the ice next Friday, hosting SUNY Cortland at 7 p.m. for the home and State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opener.
