Football limited in E8 action on the road at Utica

UTICA, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville football team was held to just 100 yards total offense Saturday afternoon as they fell in Empire 8 action to host Utica College by a 24-6 final score in Utica.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville struggled to move the ball against a tough Utica defense Saturday afternoon as they were limited to just 100 yards total offense in a 24-6 loss to the Pioneers in Utica.
  • Connor Marriott (Waterville, N.Y.) led the Mustangs wide receiving unit, collecting a total 36 yards on four receptions while Naike Willims (Southampton, N.Y.) added 32 yards on three receptions.
  • Steven Frerichs (Wilson, N.Y.) completed 13-of-30 passes for 115 total yards.
  • Alex McBurnie (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the efforts on the ground with 26 net yards on 13 carries.
  • Morrisville had four post double digits in tackles in the defensive efforts for the visitors, including 15 from Evan Salvaggio (Geneseo, N.Y.) who also registered a tackle for a loss of three yards.
  • Barrett Masi (New Windsor, N.Y.) had 11 tackles, also registering an interception that he returned three yards.
  • Chad McBurnie (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had a collegiate high 11 total stops, while Darrius Fulton (Rochester, N.Y.) added 10 with two pass breakups and a fumble recovery.
  • Scott Howard (Binghamton, N.Y.) also added an interception to the Mustang defensive totals, while Justin Anderson (Jamaica, N.Y.) had four quarterback hurries.
  • Playing to a scoreless opening quarter, Morrisville put numbers on the board at the 11:10 mark of the second as Anai Brake (Carteret, N.J.) blocked a Utica field goal attempt and returned the ball 59-yards for the score.
  • Utica responded with their own defensive score midway through the frame, recording the pick-six to go ahead 7-6 at 7:57.
  • Neither team found the endzone again until the 6:23 mark of the third when Brett Fuller connected with Travis Decker for the 58-yard scoring pass to pull the Pioneers ahead 14-6.
  • The hosts would go on to add 10 more to their lead in the fourth, a 42-yard field goal with 5:29 to go before adding a 13-yard scoring run with just under three minutes remaining in the contest.
