Mustangs head into bye week following loss

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville football team heads into the bye week of the season next Saturday, following an Empire 8 loss to visiting Brockport on Drake Field in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville dropped their fourth straight Empire 8 contest Saturday as they fell to visiting Brockport 49-0 on Drake Field in Morrisville.
  • Morrisville faces St. John Fisher University on November 4, following a bye week next Saturday.
  • The Mustangs fought rain, wind and cold elements alongside a tough defensive unit in the Golden Eagles, struggling to generate any rhythm offensively.
  • Steven Frerichs (Wilson, N.Y.) had just eight pass attempts, connecting on three for a total 15 yards, while adding 13 in rushing on the afternoon.
  • Alex McBurnie (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 14 net yards, while Aiden McDonald (Rochester, N.Y.) had 10 yards receiving.
  • Defensively, Omar Jarvis (Rochester, N.Y.) and Evan Salvaggio (Geneseo, N.Y.) collected 13 stops apiece, while Darrius Fulton (Rochester, N.Y.) added another nine.
  • Brockport put numbers on the board midway through the opening quarter and added to their 7-0 lead with three additional scores in the second to hold the 28-0 advantage at the break.
  • They added three more tallies to their totals in the second half to collect the win.
  • Jala Coad led the offensive unit with 83 net yards rushing, while Cameron Mesh tacked on another 80 to go along with a score.
  • Isaiah Simmons collected 57 and a touchdown, with quarterback Chris McGuire posting two touchdowns with 41 net yards to go along with 22 yards passing.
  • Kyle Haettich had five stops for the defense, alongside Mike Talbert, who recorded a sack for a loss of eight yards.

  • Morrisville will host St. John Fisher College on Saturday, November 4 for senior day. Kick off is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Drake Field in Morrisville.
