Morrisville nets win over Maine-Farmington, 2-1

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville field hockey team picked up their first win of the season Sunday afternoon, topping visiting University of Maine – Farmington, by a 2-1 final decision on Drake Field in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • SUNY Morrisville field hockey picked up their first win of the season Sunday, topping the University of Maine – Farmington by a 2-1 final score in Morrisville in North Atlantic Conference play.
  • The win is the first for head coach Kathy Cornell-DeAngelis as a Mustang.
  • Morrisville pressured the Farmington net out of the gates but was unable to break through until a tally with less than a minute to go gave the hosts the 1-0 lead heading into the break.
  • Rita Dziedzic (Goshen, Conn.) collected the loose ball after the initial feed in on the penalty corner and fired a shot inside the left post of cage from the left side of the circle for the one goal lead at the 29:38 mark.
  • Morrisville extended the lead to two early in the third, taking advantage of a breakaway as Casey McLaughlin (Rome, N.Y.) centered the ball into the circle, finding Chyler Barnes (Walton, N.Y.) who tipped the ball to an open Emma Plett (Grunthal, MB) for the scoring chip.
  • Farmington got one back in the 57th minute of play, but the Mustangs were able to hold on and collect the win.
  • Morrisville held the 15-1 advantage in shots on goal, as well as in penalty corners, on the afternoon.
  • Emmaly Noeller (Canastota, N.Y.) collected the win, playing all 60 minutes in net.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
 
  • Morrisville returns to the field Wednesday, hosting Union College at 3:30 p.m. on Drake Field in Morrisville in non-league play.
