Women tie single game record for threes in Route 20 Rival win over Cazenovia

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's basketball team hit a game total 19 three-pointers Tuesday afternoon, tying the all-time single game record for the Mustangs, as they handed host Cazenovia College an 84-62 loss in non-conference action to kick off the new year.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville women's basketball picked up an 84-62 win Tuesday afternoon to ring in the new year, toppling the host Cazenovia College Wildcats as they hit 19 three-pointers across four quarters of action to tie the all-time single game record.
  • Morrisville, who put up 52 from long range, also tied the single game mark for the most attempts, finishing with a 36.5% effort from beyond the arc, while hitting 41.8% from the floor overall.
  • Carli Pardee (South Kortright, N.Y.) nailed six for the Mustangs from behind the arc, collecting a total 18 points to lead the long-range shooting effort, while teammate Brooke Hammersley (Weedsport, N.Y.) led all efforts with a near perfect shooting performance as she drained 8-of-9 total shots for 24 points.
  • Hammersley also posted a 4-for-5 effort from long range, hitting all four free throws, while adding seven rebounds to her totals.
  • Rachel Vieira (Caruthers, Calif.) added 14, hitting four threes, while Cara Walker (Phelps, N.Y.) posted the double-double with a hard fought 10 points and 10 rebounds in the paint.
  • Walker also added a team high four assists.
  • Morrisville maintained a slim 36-31 lead at the break, suffering the effects of 10 turnovers, but got out of the trenches in the third as Hammersley collected seven straight points to kick off a 18-5 run by the Mustangs, opening the gap to 16 with minutes to go in the quarter.
  • The Mustangs closed out the quarter with the double-digit lead, after newcomer Tayghan Doorley (Hornell, N.Y.) nailed the three-ball from the left baseline.
  • Cazenovia had no answer for the Mustangs, who increased their lead by as many as 27 in the fourth quarter, hitting another seven from behind the arc to secure the win.
  • Morrisville collected 14 of their game total 21 points off turnovers in the second half alone, getting a total 36 points from play off the bench.
  • Alivia Turk led the Wildcat efforts with 21 points, adding eight rebounds, as teammate Mackenzie Bennett collected 13 in the loss.
