Olson's overtime goal gives Mustangs 3-2 win over Bengals

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Freshman Emily Olson (Lloydminster, Alta.) collected her fifth goal of the season Saturday afternoon in thrilling fashion, netting the game winner 3:34 into the overtime period as the visiting SUNY Morrisville Mustangs notched the 3-2 extra time win over host Buffalo State in Buffalo.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville women's hockey posted a thrilling 3-2 NEWHL win Saturday afternoon in extra time to net their seventh victory of the season, taking down host Buffalo State on their home ice.
  • Freshman Emily Olson (Lloydminster, Alta.) one-timed the feed from Allie Davidson (Niagara Falls, Ont.) for the game winning tally, a sudden victory score that came 3:34 into the overtime period.
  • Buffalo State put the first score on the board early, netting the game's opening tally just 2:07 in before a power play score from Hailee Easson (Okotoks, Alta.) pulled the contest even at one.
  • Easson's tally was her third of the year on the power play and fifth overall goal on the season.
  • Davidson and Lilly Trevors (Miramichi, N.B.) picked up the assists.
  • Both teams skated to a scoreless second period and once again the Mustangs found themselves one goal behind early in the frame, as the hosts posted an unassisted score 3:45 into the third.
  • Morrisville collected their second power play tally of the game 10:20 into the third as Easson won the face-off and chipped the puck to Kate Mabey (Guelph, Ont.) for the initial shot.
  • Rhys Brown (Kemptville, Ont.) collected the rebound and went top shelf over the Bengal netminder to knot the contest at two.
  • Morrisville maintained pressure in their offensive zone on the Bengal defense, forcing Jessica Auge to make six stops before the extra time.
  • In the overtime period, Morrisville controlled possession of the puck and Auge made six more stops before Olson was able to break through for the game winner.
  • Emma Plett (Grunthal, Man.) collected the win with her 26 stop performance.
  • Auge finished with 46 saves in the loss.

  • Morrisville will return to the ice Friday on the road at Potsdam. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Potsdam.
