Vieira's 26 leads Morrisville to win over Abington

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Senior guard Rachel Vieira (Caruthers, Calif.) led all scorers with 26 points Friday night as she drained six from long range in a 75-51 win over visiting Penn St. Abington on the Mustangs home court in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Senior Rachel Vieira (Caruthers, Calif.) hit 10-of-18 shots from the floor, including six from behind the arc, as she led the host SUNY Morrisville women's basketball team to a 75-51 United East win over visiting Penn St. Abington in Morrisville.
  • Vieira, who posted a total 26 points, did so in just 19 minutes of action, while adding an assist and steal to her totals.
  • Morrisville also got double figures from Cara Walker (Phelps, N.Y.) and Brooke Hammersley (Weedsport, N.Y.) who played half the contest; Walker netting 11 points and grabbing nine rebounds, while Hammersley added 10 points to go along with six boards.
  • Taylor Colone-Microni (Oneonta, N.Y.) added three from long range for nine points on the night, while Josely Medina (Florida, N.Y.) also chipped in three from behind the arc for a game total nine points.
  • Morrisville put the first points on the board in Friday's league match up and after a three by Vieira early on, opened the contest to a double-digit gap behind five straight points from Hammersley.
  • Colone-Microni increased the lead to 15 with back-to-back tre's before the Mustangs wrapped up the quarter with the 13-point advantage.
  • After a 17-point second quarter, the hosts carried the 39-20 lead unto the break and didn't look back as they doubled up their lead in the second half for the eventual 75-51 victory.

  • Morrisville returns to the court Saturday, hosting Penn College to wrap up weekend action. Tip is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Morrisville.
