Hammersley's double-double leads Morrisville women to win over LBC

LANCASTER, PA – Junior Brooke Hammersley (Weedsport, N.Y.) scored 11 of her game total 19 points in the third quarter Friday evening, leading SUNY Morrisville to a 58-41 win over host Lancaster Bible College on the road in Lancaster, keeping the Mustangs at the top of the United East standings with a clean 7-0 slate.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Junior guard Brooke Hammersley (Weedsport, N.Y.) led the SUNY Morrisville women's basketball team to a 58-41 United East win Friday evening over host Lancaster Bible College, netting 11 of her game total 19 points in the third quarter enroute to a double-double adding a season high 17 rebounds in the win.
  • Morrisville and Lancaster battled to a 25 point tie after the first half of action before the visiting Mustangs ran away in the third with a 16-6 quarter to head into the final frame with a 10-point advantage.
  • Lancaster was able to cut the deficit to six early on in the fourth, but a big three-pointer by Taylor Colone-Microni (Oneonta, N.Y.) sparked an 11-0 run by the Mustangs over the next two minutes of play to broaden the gap to 17.
  • The Chargers posted back-to-back buckets to trail by 12 with 4:20 to go, but Hammersley attacked the paint and collected the final five points of the contest to secure the win for the Mustangs.
  • Cara Walker (Phelps, N.Y.) also registered a double-double for the visitors, netting 17 points and snagging 10 rebounds, while collecting four steals.
  • Rachel Vieira (Caruthers, Calif.) added 16 to go along with her three assists and three steals.
  • Colone-Microni rounded out the scoring for the Mustangs with six points, both coming from behind the arc.
  • Morrisville dominated the paint, outgaining Lancaster 32-12, and forced the Chargers into 12 miscues where they capitalized on eight additional points.
