Morrisville women overwhelm Wildcats in second en route to Untied East win

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The SUNY Morrisville women's basketball team picked up their fifth straight league win Saturday afternoon, as they used a 26-point second quarter to tame the Penn College Wildcats in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, by a 64-49 final score.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville women's basketball poured in 26 second quarter points behind their 68.8% effort from the floor in the frame, en route to a 64-49 United East win over host Penn College in Williamsport.
  • The win is the fifth for the Mustangs in league action, bumping their overall record to 9-5 to go along with a 5-0 conference slate.
  • Brooke Hammersley (Weedsport, N.Y.) led all scorers with 24 points, completing the double-double with 12 boards, while teammate Rachel Vieira (Caruthers, Calif.) added 16 points.
  • Morrisville dominated the glass 47-34, in part due to 14 snags from Cara Walker (Phelps, N.Y.) who also collected eight points and assisted eight other buckets.
  • Morrisville held a slim 10-7 lead after a slow start in the first quarter, before exploding for 26 points in the second to race out to a 36-15 lead at the break.
  • Vieira hit a perfect 4-for-4 from the floor, including one from behind the arc to collect nine points in the quarter, while four additional teammates contributed to the lead.
  • Penn College attempted a fourth quarter rally, but Morrisville maintained their distance to collect the win.
  • The Mustangs registered 15 points off Wildcat miscues, while dominating the paint as they outgained Penn 44-14 in the box.
