Morrisville holds on for 3-2 win over Medaille

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville field hockey team held on for a 3-2 non-conference win Wednesday night over visiting Medaille College, withstanding a late fourth quarter comeback attempt by the Mavericks on the Mustangs home field in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting Medaille College posted two goals late in the fourth quarter in a comeback attempt, but host SUNY Morrisville field hockey held on to the non-conference win as they topped the Mavericks 3-2 in Wednesday night action on Drake Field in Morrisville.
  • Morrisville was first to strike on the night's action as Emma Plett (Mitchell, Man.) tapped in the deflection from Casey McLaughlin (Rome, N.Y.) for the 1-0 Mustang lead at the 13:58 mark of the first.
  • Within minutes, the lead was extended to 2-0, as Gabby Sennett (Union Springs, N.Y.) picked up her first collegiate score, collecting the rebound off the defensive stop by Medaille for the goal. Erika Herrman (Oneida, N.Y.) was credited with the assist.
  • Morrisville maintained the 2-0 lead until a third tally was put on the board early in the third, with Kate Walters (Fayetteville, N.Y.) sweeping home the insert from the top of the circle from McLaughlin for the three goal lead.
  • The score was Walters first collegiate tally.
  • Medaille, who met a defensive wall in Mustang goalkeeper Morgan Dueber (Owego, N.Y.) was finally able to break through with back-to-back strikes in the fourth, cutting the host lead to one, but Dueber was able to turn away two final attempts down the stretch to secure the win.
  • Dueber had eight saves in the win in cage.
  • Kristyn Clare recorded the loss for Medaille, collecting 17 stops as Morrisville held the 30-14 advantage in shots on the night.

  • Morrisville returns to action Friday at Utica University. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m. in Utica.
