Huppee sets record for kills in five-set match, team collects 3-2 match win

Box Score ONEONTA, N.Y. – Sophomore Emily Huppee (Liberty Hill, Tex.) recorded a match high 28 kills Saturday morning to lead the visiting SUNY Morrisville women's volleyball team to a 3-2 match win over host Hartwick College in Oneonta. The high is a new single match record recorded in five sets, one-upping the record set in 2019 by All-American Megyan Merrill.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville picked up a hard fought 3-2 match win Saturday morning as sophomore Emily Huppee (Liberty Hill, Tex.) pounded down a five-set record 28 kills to lead the attacking game in the victory. Eleven of her kills came in the second set for the Mustangs.
  • Huppee added 12 digs defensively for the Mustangs, who improved to 9-1 overall with the win.
  • Morrisville jumped out in front in the first set, claiming a match point with a 25-18 win in set one, pulling away with the serving effort of Kayla Sheasby (Hood River, Ore.) who served up two straight aces to increase the set lead to seven.
  • After two straight points by Hartwick, Huppee put the set away with a kill off the assist of Siobhan Moore (Leyden, Mass.).
  • Hartwick took advantage of the Mustangs hitting errors across the next two sets to claim a 2-1 match lead, collecting wins with set scores of 25-22 apiece, but Morrisville rebounded in the fourth with their best set hitting effort, a .414 total from the floor, to force a deciding fifth set.
  • In the fifth, Morrisville was first to collect a point, and utilized the play of their hitting unit at the net to build up a lead that they didn't relinquish collecting the match win.
  • Keelin Baker (Vestal, N.Y.) put the contest away for the Mustangs with one of her five set kills, as Morrisville picked up the 15-11 set and 3-2 match win.
  • Baker finished with 13 kills for the Mustangs, while captain Brianna Gates (Eagle, Colo.) added 18.
  • Sheasby served up three aces across the match, while posting 21 digs. Gates added 16.
  • Moore put up 47 assists for the Mustangs, with Kathryn Dolan (Quincy, Calif.) and Kada Tillman (Orange Beach, Ala.) putting up a wall at the net with eight blocks, four apiece.
  • Morrisville outgunned Hartwick in kills 73-47, hitting a combined effort of .261 across the match.
