Morrisville men end season with 11-3 overall record

Box Score MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's lacrosse team concluded the 2022 season campaign Saturday afternoon, falling in the United East Championship Final to second seeded St. Mary's College by a 13-5 final score.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Top seeded SUNY Morrisville men's lacrosse saw the season come to a close Saturday afternoon as they fell in the United East Championship final to second seeded St. Mary's College by a 13-5 tally.
  • Luke Strong (Rochester, N.Y.) led the Mustang efforts with four points, netting two goals and assisting another two, while collecting three ground balls and causing two turnovers.
  • Zach Nestor (Manlius, N.Y.), Dante Patriarco (Cortland, N.Y.) and Savion Williams (Peekskill, N.Y.) each added one to the tallies for the hosts, while Peter Pina (Culver City, Calif.) collected an assist.
  • Dylan LaPlace (Chester, Conn.) turned away 12 in net for the Mustangs, recording the loss.
  • As expected, both teams battled evenly throughout the contest, but the difference in the day was the play of Seahawk goalkeeper Kyrle Preis who posted 13 stops for the win.
  • Strong was first to strike for all scoring on the day, netting his first of two 38 seconds in off the dish from Pina for an early 1-0 Mustang lead.
  • The Seahawks added back-to-back scores, though, carrying the 2-1 lead through the first quarter.
  • Aiden Doyle added another for St. Mary's early in the second before Williams responded for the Mustangs, and following a second Seahawk tally, Patriarco found the back of the net to keep the Mustangs within one with minutes to go before half.
  • St. Mary's added one final first half score for the 5-3 lead at the break.
  • An early score from Doyle in the third extended the lead to three, but Strong quickly brought Morrisville back within two with his 27th of the season midway through the quarter.
  • Three straight by St. Mary's though, found the Mustangs trailing by five with under a minute remaining in the third.
  • Nestor was able to beat the quarter buzzer with an extra-man score with one tick to go, bringing the Mustangs within four after three quarters.
  • St. Mary's posted the final four of the contest all in the last frame of play, capturing the tournament title.

  • Morrisville concludes the 2022 season campaign with the United East regular season title, and a 11-3 overall record.
