Roman Reiss (LaFayette, N.Y.) exploded for nine goals in Wednesday afternoon's semifinal, as he led the top seeded SUNY Morrisville Mustangs past fourth seeded Hilbert College by a 22-5 in the opening round of the United East Tournament held on Drake Field in Morrisville.
The Mustangs head to the title game for a seventh straight season, looking to defend the championship against second seed St. Mary's College (Maryland).

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
- Sophomore Roman Reiss (LaFayette, N.Y.) rifled off a collegiate high nine goals Wednesday afternoon to lead the top seeded SUNY Morrisville Mustangs to a 22-5 United East semifinal win over fourth seeded Hilbert College on Drake Field in Morrisville.
- Reiss got the Mustangs rolling early, netting the first tally of the contest 45 seconds in, before another six contributed to the win with an offensive blitz by the hosts.
- Luke Strong (Rochester, N.Y.) added the hat trick along with Dante Patriarco (Cortland, N.Y.), each adding an assist to their totals on the day, while Chris Picciott (Brewerton, N.Y.) collected three scores to go along with two helpers.
- Strong also collected three caused turnovers and six ground balls, while Justin Smith (East Syracuse, N.Y.) added another six pickups to the Mustang totals.
- Evan Kistner (Fulton, N.Y.) went 1-and-1 in scoring for two points, with senior Peter Pina (Culver City, Calif.) adding a tally as well.
- Zach Nestor (Manlius, N.Y.) once again picked apart the defensive unit, establishing a new single game record for assists with 10, also adding two scores for a total of 12 points in the game.
- Soren Bredeson (Eagle, Colo.) dominated the faceoff x with a 23 win effort (of 27), picking up a high nine ground balls, while adding an assist to his totals on the day.
- Gerald Klubek (Eden, N.Y.) added another four wins for the Mustangs at the center x, as the hosts went a total 27-for-31 from the start. Klubek also collected five ground balls on the day.
- Reiss notched the first tally under a minute in to open the scoring for the semifinal, before Hilbert tied the contest with an unassisted tally from Joey DiMaria at the 9:15 mark.
- Just over a minute later Nestor connected with Reiss for his second of the quarter to give the hosts the 2-1 lead, before a tally from Picciott gave Morrisville the two goal advantage with his put away off the dish from Patriarco.
- Reiss collected the hat trick with a third snipe of the quarter, again off the feed from Nestor, before a wrap around by Nestor carried the Mustangs into the second with a 5-1 lead.
- Patriarco collected his first of the afternoon 35 seconds into the second frame, putting away the behind the goal pass from Nestor, before Strong netted his first of three for the six goal host advantage.
- Reiss continued the streak for the 'Stangs before a score from Liam Doyle broke up the streak, but it was short lived as Morrisville went on an 8-0 run that carried over into the third quarter to extend their lead to 14.
- Three straight tallies by Hilbert gave life to the offensive unit, but Morrisville quickly snatched the momentum away and finished the contest with six straight in the fourth frame to put the game away for the advancing win.
- Dylan LaPlace (Chester, Conn.) turned away 10 in the win for the Mustangs, adding three ground balls to his totals.
- Morrisville dominated the battle on the ground, outgaining Hilbert 43-20 in ground balls, and 36-15 in shots on goal.
WHAT'S NEXT:
- Morrisville advances to the title game for a seventh straight season, and will face second seed St. Mary's College (Maryland) in the championship final. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Drake Field in Morrisville.
- In the first meeting between the two programs, Morrisville defeated the Seahawks 14-13, and the Mustangs went on to post an undefeated 6-0 record in the league to earn the overall top seed and tournament hosting rights.
