Softball falls twice to Lancaster Bible College

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville softball team dropped a pair of games on Friday afternoon, falling to Lancaster Bible College in United East conference doubleheader action. The Mustangs fell 13-4 in game one, before falling 21-6 in the nightcap. Jessica Burlew (Hopatcong, NJ) led the Mustangs on the day, going 4 for 6 from the plate across both games.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • Lancaster Bible took an early 3-run lead in the top of the first, but the Mustangs responded with a run of their own. Tiana Terry (Liverpool, PA) ripped a double to left field and advanced to second when Burlew tallied her first of four hits on a single through the left side. Terry's score came off of a sacrifice fly from sophomore, Toni Baker (Pittsgrove, NJ).
  • Morrisville added two more in the third, with Burlew taking credit for both RBI's after doubling to left field.
  • The Mustang's final run of the game came in the fourth when Sophie Keehle (Conklin, NY) earned a walk with the bases loaded, scoring Hannah Godfrey (Southgate, MICH).
  • Kellina Murphy (Yonkers, NY) suffered the loss in game one, striking out two and walking one, while giving up twelve hits in five innings pitched.
  • The Chargers took the early lead again in the nightcap, posting seven runs in the opening inning of game two.
  • Morrisville tallied three runs of their own in the bottom of the first, ignited by Baker's single up the middle to score Terry and Keehle. With Burlew in scoring position at third, Jade Atherton (Greenwood, NY) hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring the Mustangs within four runs of the visitors.  
  • Lancaster Bible added eight additional runs in the second to take a 15-3 lead going into the bottom of the third.
  • The Mustangs scored three more in the bottom of the third, tallying a game-high five hits in the inning. But the hosts could not plate another run, falling 21-6 in five innings.
  • Godfrey took the loss in the nightcap, walking one batter and surrendering eleven hits.
WHAT'S NEXT
Softball concludes their 2022 campaign on Saturday afternoon, hosting a United East conference doubleheader against Gallaudet University. Games are slated to start at 1:00pm and 3:00pm.
