Softball sweeps Wells Express in United East action

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville softball team strung together two United East conference wins on Wednesday afternoon, defeating the Wells College Express 14-1 and 17-6. The Mustangs improve to 3-17 overall, and 3-9 in conference play.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • In game one, Hannah Godfrey (Southgate, MICH) allowed six hits and struck out three to pick up her first win of the season for the Mustangs. The sophomore right-hander issued zero walks and kept the Express off of the scoreboard until the third inning.
  • Eight players registered hits for Morrisville, combining for 13 hits in the first game. Toni Baker (Pittsgrove, NJ) led the Mustangs with two hits, two runs scored and four RBI's on three at-bats, in addition to recording her first triple of the season.
  • Jade Atherton (Greenwood, NY) posted two hits, including a double, and one RBI to continue her hitting streak; the sophomore has recorded at least one hit in each of her last five games.
  • Jessica Burlew (Hopatcong, NJ), Tiana Terry (Liverpool, PA) and Brookelyn Hanley (Manchester, NY) all tallied two hits each in the victory.
  • Baker and Atherton continued their hot streak into game two and combined to go 8-for-8 from the plate, recording two doubles, one apiece, five RBI's and scoring four runs.
  • The freshmen duo of Sophie Keehle (Conklin, NY) and Hanley both registered their first collegiate triples on the afternoon. Hanley went 1-2 from the plate with three RBI's, while Keehle went 2-3 with four RBI's and two runs scored.
  • In total, the Mustangs tallied 16 hits and 17 RBI's, both season highs.
  • Delimar Vega-Haley (Worcester, NY) earned her first collegiate win on the mound for Morrisville. The freshman pitcher went 4.1 innings, striking out three while only allowing five hits.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
SUNY Morrisville has a day of rest before they are back in United East conference action, hosting Penn State-Berks on Friday afternoon. Pending weather, games are scheduled to start at 3:00pm and 5:00pm.
