Morrisville powers past Sage in fourth for win

Box Score MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's lacrosse team picked up a 12-7 win Monday night in Morrisville as they defeated Russell Sage College behind a four goal fourth quarter in non-conference action in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville notched four fourth quarter scores Monday night as they downed visiting Russell Sage College 12-7 in non-conference action for their second straight win to start the season.
  • Morrisville got five tallies and an assist from leading scorer Aria Treadway (Rome, N.Y.) who added two of her scores on the free position. Treadway also collected four ground balls and two caused turnovers on the night.
  • Maddie Baum (Fulton, N.Y.) added a hat trick performance with her three scores, while registering an assist and picking up a team high give ground balls and five draw controls.
  • Alana McDonald (Potsdam, N.Y.) collected two of her won, with fellow teammate Sarah Lutz (Parker, Colo.) notched her first collegiate tally to contribute to the win.
  • Senior Makenzi Santini (Fairport, N.Y.) rounded out all goal scorers with one, but added a hat trick of assists for a four-point outing.
  • Laura Lorraine (Hamilton, N.Y.) picked up the win in net, making 10 stops in 60 minutes of action.
  • Morrisville, who held the 22-17 edge in shots on goal, posted two in the opening quarter of play off the sticks of McDonald and Treadway, as did Sage for a 2-2 tie after the opening 15.
  • In the second, Baum proved to be a handful for the Gators defense, as she collected three, one on the extra man and a second before facing just over a 30-minute lightning delay. Once action resumed, Baum posted her third of the quarter off the dish from Santini, giving the Mustangs the 7-3 lead midway through.
  • Sage was able to get two additional tallies to cut the deficit to two before the halftime break.
  • The Gators opened scoring in the third with a strike seconds into the quarter to make it a 7-6 game in favor of the hosts, but a Treadway score on the extra man, regained the two goal lead for the Mustangs.
  • Morrisville scored three straight within three minutes time in the fourth, before wrapping up all scoring with a final tally from Treadway, her 11th on the season, with 1:31 remaining on the clock.
  • Alexandra Queeney led the Gators with three goals and two assists, collected eight draws and picked up three ground balls in the Sage efforts.
  • Madeline Butta had 10 saves in the loss.
