WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Penn State-Abington came out hot in the first game, scoring eleven runs in just four innings for the Nittany Lions. Morrisville recorded just two hits, coming from Baker and Morgan Dueber (Owego, NY).
- Kellina Murphy (Yonkers, NY) and Hannah Godfrey (Southgate, MI) split time on the mound for the Mustangs with Murphy suffering the loss, allowing nine hits, walking two batters, and recording one strike out.
- Baker got things started for the Mustangs in game two, ripping a single to right field with two outs, but Morrisville wasn't able to punch in a run leaving two on base to end the inning.
- The Mustang defense held steady with neither team recording a run in the first inning. Delimar Vega-Haley (Worcester, NY) made her collegiate debut starting on the mound for the Mustangs, allowing just one hit and striking out one in the bottom of the first.
- Abington scored four runs in the second and one in the third to take a 5-0 lead going into the fourth inning. Dueber poked a single up the middle in the top of the fourth, but the Mustangs ended the inning two batters later before a runner could cross the plate.
- Morrisville made it a two-run game in the fifth with Murphy getting things started with a single to right center. Two Abington errors allowed for the Mustangs first score, followed by a double to center field off the bat of Baker, scoring two additional runs.
- Once again, the Mustang defense remained resilient in the bottom of the fifth with three Abington batters grounding out to end the inning. Neither team scored a run in the sixth, with the hosts holding the slight 5-3 lead going into the final inning.
- Morrisville tied the ball game in the top of the seventh as Jessica Burlew started the inning with a single, eventually scoring on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Dueber. Pinch runner, Emma Thonpson (Ingleside, ONT) scored the tying run before the Mustangs ended the inning with a ground out to third.
- The Mustang comeback fell just short as Abington's Megan Tomoney ripped a single up the middle to score the winning run for the Nittany Lions.
