Morrisville women falter in first half, fall 19-9 to Potsdam

Box Score MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's lacrosse team got behind early and despite a second half comeback attempt could not cage the visiting Bears as SUNY Potsdam picked up the 19-9 win on Drake Field in Morrisville Saturday afternoon.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Potsdam rattled off eight second quarter scores to add to their lead after one and didn't let off the gas as they captured the 19-9 win over host SUNY Morrisville Saturday afternoon in Morrisville.
  • Three contributed to the scoring for the hosts, including Maddie Baum (Fulton, N.Y.) who posted six points on her three goals and three assist performance while adding five ground balls and a draw control to her tallies.
  • Aria Treadway (Rome, N.Y.) added four scores to go along with two ground ball pickups and two caused turnovers, while Makenzi Santini (Fairport, N.Y.) added two tallies.
  • Alana McDonald (Potsdam, N.Y.) collected a team high four draws in the center circle.
  • Laura Lorraine (Hamilton, N.Y.) registered eight saves in the loss in net.
  • Potsdam posted four first quarter goals to claim the 4-0 early game lead over the hosts, before Morrisville was able to put one on the board with a quick tally by Treadway seconds into the frame off the dish from Baum.
  • Potsdam rattled off two more scores to increase their lead to five, but back-to-back goals by Santini and Treadway brought the Mustangs win in three with 9:19 to go before half.
  • The Bears regained the five goal advantage over the hosts before Baum ripped off one, but Potsdam ended the half with a four-goal run to send the game into the break with a 12-4 visitor lead.
  • Potsdam jumped out to a 17-5 lead after three, and in an attempt to post a comeback late in the game, the Mustangs outgained the Bears 4-1 in the fourth, but fell short as they dropped the 19-9 decision.
