Mustangs Edged by Red Dragons 2-1

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville Women's Hockey team dropped a tight Northeast Women's Hockey League (NEWHL) contest 2-1 against the SUNY Cortland Red Dragons on Tuesday evening.

THE BASICS
  • Final Score: Morrisville 1, Cortland 2
  • Location: Morrisville, N.Y.
  • Records: Morrisville 5-14-1 (3-11-1 NEWHL), Cortland 14-4-1 (9-4-1 NEWHL)
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • The Red Dragons jumped out to the early 1-0 lead in the 4th minute of play in the first period.
  • However, despite being outshot 18-3 in the first and 14-5 in the second, the Mustangs kept Cortland off the board to stay within one.
  • Gwyneth Pritchard (Saskatoon, Sask.) found the equalizer on a breakaway just under a minute into the third period to tie the score at 1-1.
  • Unfortunately, Morrisville was whistled for a penalty in the 14th minute of play in the third, giving Cortland the power play opportunity.
  • The Red Dragons ultimately capitalized on that power play to take the 2-1 lead and ultimately the contest.
  • Emma Plett (Grunthal, Man.) suffered the hard luck loss despite recording 48 saves over her sixty minutes of action.
