Women suffer heartbreaking loss, maintain second place in United East standings

Box Score MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's basketball team suffered a heartbreaking 74-73 defeat Saturday afternoon to visiting Gallaudet University, despite matching a season high 16 three-pointers on the afternoon with four posting double-figures.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Four posted double figures for the SUNY Morrisville women's basketball team Saturday afternoon, but it wasn't enough as they suffered a heartbreaking 74-73 loss to visiting Gallaudet University in United East action in Morrisville.
  • Brooke Hammersley (Weedsport, N.Y.) posted a team high 18 for the Mustangs, adding five rebounds to go along with three assists, while teammate Taylor Colone-Microni (Oneonta, N.Y.) chipped in 15 on four three's, snagging seven rebounds and three assists.
  • Rachel Vieira (Caruthers, Calif.) collected 12, all from long range and dished out five assists.
  • Carli Pardee (South Kortright, N.Y.) notched a collegiate high 14 on four from beyond the arc, adding six rebounds rounding out the leader board for the Mustangs.
  • Morrisville finished the contest with 16 three's, hitting 34.8% on the afternoon.
  • With both teams playing back-and-forth throughout the afternoon, the final frame proved no different as it came down to the final minute of the contest to decide a winner.
  • Gallaudet battled back from a five point deficit, attacking the paint and cut the Mustang lead to one with 1:29 to go.
  • On their ensuing possession, leading scorer Cassidy Perry competed the comeback with a turnaround layup in the paint to give the visitors the one-point lead with 51 seconds remaining.
  • Morrisville had a good look on their following possession, but couldn't get the ball to fall, but following a defensive rebound regained possession of the ball with eight seconds to go trailing by one.
  • The hosts had a good look in the closing seconds, but the final effort launched from the top of the key by the Mustangs bounced off the rim and gave the visitors the win.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
 
  • Morrisville will return to the court Tuesday, traveling to Penn St. Abington for a rescheduled match with the Nittany Lions from early January. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Abington.
