Morrisville men end season with third straight win

Box Score MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Host SUNY Morrisville men's basketball overcame a three-point deficit at the half as they topped visiting Penn College 88-78 Saturday afternoon in Morrisville, ending the season with a third straight victory.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville men's basketball team rattled off 49 second half points Saturday afternoon as they posted their third straight win to end the season behind a 88-78 comeback victory over visiting Penn College in Morrisville.
  • Michael Litchfield (St. Albans, N.Y.) led the Mustangs for a third straight game, netting 29 points, including a 10-for-10 effort from the free throw line, while adding four boards to his totals.
  • Fellow guard Tron Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added another 24, hitting 5-of-7 from beyond the arc, while collecting five rebounds and assisting three.
  • Mike Green (Bronx, N.Y.) chipped in a career high 16 points to go along with three boards and four assists.
  • Jordan Coard (Jamaica, N.Y.) led the Mustangs on the glass with his team high 10, adding seven to the host scoring, as Morrisville edged the visiting Wildcats 34-32 in rebounds.
  • Penn College led 42-39 at the break and increased their lead to as many as nine with 12 minutes to go in the second half before a three-ball by Litchfield kicked off a 19-3 run by the hosts over the next six minutes, shifting the tables to a 69-62 advantage for the Mustangs.
  • The Wildcats were able to cut the deficit to three twice over the next two minutes, but a jumper from senior Jon Brennen (Irvington, N.Y.) and a three from Green regained the six-point lead with 2:41 to go.
  • Penn leading scorer Gavin Barrett was able to make it a four-point game hitting two from the charity stripe, but a three from Litchfield with under two go extended the lead to seven with 1:46 to play.
  • The visitors were again able to close the gap to five with 39 seconds to go, but Morrisville nailed 5-of-6 shots from the free throw line down the stretch to seal the win.
  • The Mustangs finished the contest hitting 16-of-19 from the line, and drained 12 three's as they shot 48.4% from the floor.
  • Prior to the contest, Morrisville honored its senior class of Jared D'Aloia (Stillwater, N.Y.), Hunter Kowaleski (Cazenovia, N.Y.) and Brennen.
