Second half propels Morrisville men past Abington for win

Box Score MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Host SUNY Morrisville men's basketball team exploded offensively in the second half of Friday night's United East matchup with visiting Penn St. Abington, collecting the 73-61 win in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville collected a United East win Friday night over visiting Penn St. Abington, exploding for 48 second half points en route to a 73-61 decision.
  • Freshman Michael Litchfield (St. Albans, N.Y.) led the Mustangs for the second time in as many games, leading all scorers with 27 points as he drained 5-of-8 from long range while hitting a total 8-of-14 from the floor.
  • Hunter Kowaleski (Cazenovia, N.Y.) also collected double figures, netting 11, while snagging six off the glass and blocking two.
  • Jordan Coard (Jamaica, N.Y.) came off the bench to add 10, while posting five rebounds, with eight of his points coming off wide open looks in the paint in the second half.
  • Tron Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y.) proved pesky for the Nittany Lion defensively as he took away five, while assisting another seven on the opposite end of the floor.
  • Morrisville led 25-24 at the break before Litchfield exploded offensively for 20 second half points that included four three's, as the Mustangs poured in 65% of shots from the floor in the final period, including a 55.56% stance from beyond the arc.
  • The Mustangs maintained a slight edge over the visitors throughout the second half, and with 3:23 to go made it a multiple possession game, as they closed out the final minutes with a 13-4 run to earn the victory.

  • Morrisville will wrap up the season tomorrow, hosting Penn College in a 1 p.m. United East finale. Prior to the contest, the Mustangs will honor it's senior class.
