Morrisville men wrap up week's action on the road at Wells

Box Score AURORA, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's basketball team wrapped up the week's action Thursday night on the road at Wells College, falling in a United East north outing by an 87-74 final score in Aurora.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville men's basketball battled back from a 22-point first half deficit to trail by just four at the break, but a strong Wells squad outgained the Mustangs in the second to collect the league win Thursday night.
  • Tron Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led Morrisville in scoring, netting 19 points from the floor, while adding two steals and two assists.
  • Seventeen of his points came in the first half of play.
  • Jon Brennen (Irvington, N.Y.) added 15 to go along with three rebounds, hitting 3-of-6 from long range alongside Smith.
  • Morrisville outgained the hosts 30-20 in bench action, as Noah Armstrong (Cortland, N.Y.) came into the contest to post eight points and collect two boards.
  • The Mustangs got off to a slow start offensively and quickly found themselves trailing by as many as 22 midway through the opening period, but a four-point play by Smith sparked the visitors to a 17-3 run, getting back in the contest with 3:41 to go in the half.
  • Morrisville was able to maintain striking distance behind the shooting of Smith and Brennen and headed into the locker room trailing 40-36.
  • After cutting the Wells lead to one with a third three-ball from Brennen, Wells went on a 12-0 run to regain the double-digit advantage, and a lead that wouldn't be surrendered as they picked up the United East win.
