Morrisville opens SUNYAC play against no. 2 Geneseo

Box Score MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's ice hockey team opened the 2022-23 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) schedule Wednesday night with a 5-1 loss against visiting and nationally ranked no. 2 SUNY Geneseo in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting and nationally ranked no. 2 SUNY Geneseo scored four in the opening period of Wednesday night's SUNYAC opener to hand host SUNY Morrisville a 5-1 league loss on their home ice in Morrisville.
  • Geneseo struck seven minutes into the period with a short-handed unassisted tally from Zach Rehbaum, before netting a second goal minutes later off the stick of Domenic Garozzo for the 2-0 lead.
  • The Knights posted back-to-back tallies within a time frame of 20 seconds late in the period to carry a four-goal advantage into the first intermission, the first coming at 16:14 from Stefan Miklakos and another from Trent DeNuccio.
  • Rehbaum added a second tally of the night at the 15:02 mark of the second for a 5-0 visitor lead before Morrisville was able to counter a score 2:40 in the third as Curtis Abbott (Belmont, Ont.) cleaned up the loose puck in front for the tally.
  • Richard Hart (Liverpool, N.Y.) and Jake Kaplan (Bowie, Md.) were credited with the assists.
  • Grant Linville (Edmond, Okla.) recorded the loss in net, registering 10 stops in the first period of play, before Garrett Boyonoski (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) replaced Linville for the second and third periods.
  • Boyonoski recorded 14 saves between the two frames.
  • Morrisville forced Matt Petizian to make 22 stops to earn the win in net for Geneseo, including nine in the final period as the Knights held the slight 28-23 advantage in shots on goal across the contest.

  • Morrisville returns to the ice Saturday, hosting SUNY Brockport at 4 p.m. in the IcePlex in Morrisville. Prior to the contest, Morrisville will be honoring its senior class.
