Sy’s early score lifts Mustangs past SUNY Poly

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville Men's Soccer team improved to 6-9-0 on Tuesday night, defeating the SUNY Poly Wildcats 1-0, recording their fifth shutout victory of the season. Junior Mohamed Sy (New York, NY) posted the lone goal in the win for the Mustangs.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • The Mustangs scored just over a minute into the game, posting the lone goal and what would be the eventual game winner in the 2nd minute of action. After a Wildcat foul just outside the penalty box, sophomore forward Olvin Yanes (Selden, NY) took the free kick and found Sy who one-touched to find the back of the net.
  • The Morrisville defensive unit fought off several attacks from the SUNY Poly offense to close out the first half, taking the one-goal lead in to halftime.
  • Both teams would press to score in the second half, but the Mustang defense would prevail, holding the Wildcats scoreless throughout all 90 minutes of play.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Caleb Lucero (Syracuse, NY) recorded a season-high eight saves and helped turn back thirteen corner kicks to notch his third shutout victory of the season.

  • The Mustangs wrap up the 2022 season on Saturday afternoon, hosting Penn St.-Berks in their final game of the year at 6:00pm on Drake Field.
